Cutting the Apron Strings

I am proud to say that Cory decided he wanted to walk home from school all by himself on Friday. (first school that is close enough to actually let him) Of course he decides this while I was there to pick him up from school. I told him he had to walk with a group of kids if possible so he excitedly dumps his backpack into the car and off he goes. Shaelynn wanted to walk with him as she was in the car but I didn't let her. It felt like it was something he wanted (and needed) to do on his own.

I drove home and waited nervously for him to arrive. When he arrived he walked proudly into the house and loudly exclaimed with a huge grin on his face and in a very teenage *I showed you* tone "See...I am big enough that I can cross the streets and not get run over. I walked home all by myself!". He was so proud and so was I.

He wanted to walk home again today and was just as excited about it. He arrived home to an empty house as I was still out picking Shaelynn up so I was not able to see his accomplishment on his face today, but I bet it was there just the same.

Now to get over the 'What if he gets run over?', 'What if he gets beat up?', 'What if he gets kidnapped?' crap that goes through my head while he is walking home. Uug....I hate being a worry wort.

I am proud of my little (or not so little) guy....he is growing up quite nicely if I do say so myself.

Twilight Time?

I am excited and yet not about the new movie coming out. It is fun to see how they portray books as movies yet I almost hate to go see it because it will ruin how I imagine it all to be. Hope it can come close to the book! Wow was that a run on sentence!

I'm a Esme! I found out through TwilightersAnonymous.com. Which Twilight Female Are You? Take the quiz and find out!

Yeah I am supposed to be at work. Heh!

Trashy People

I never did realize just how trashy people are...until I got to manage a car wash. I suddenly became the lucky person who gets to pick up after everyone who visits the wash. At fist I didn't think it was to bad but as a year has flown by I have come to realize just how trashy people really are.

Here are my pet peeves.

People will pull up to vacuum their car out and instead of picking up all their trash off the floors/seats and throwing it away before vacuuming they turn the vacuum on and then start vacuuming and simply toss said trash out onto the ground. We have trash cans set next to each vacuum. It would only take a second to place trash into it...but do they? NOPE. This is most common with people from mid 30's on down. Most older people seem to have learned how to clean up after themselves as a child and continue to follow that practice.

Smokers and chewers. They never used to bother me until now. Why is it they do not see throwing their butt on the ground as not littering? I have to sweep up at least 50 of these butts a day. I did not know what chew spit looked like before this job and for quite some time I thought it was poop from a really sick bird. It wasn't until I watched a man spit about 10 times while cleaning his car and then cleaning up right after him that I realized all this sick bird poop was really tobacco spit. YUCK. The stuff stains cement too. What gross habits! Not fun to clean up after.

Another pet peeve is trucks and the auto wash. We have a nice big wash that allows full size pickups to run through it. I wish it were a mini wash that only allowed little cars. lol. We have the big trucks pull into it BEFORE cleaning out all their beer cans, drink cups, boxes and other assortments of junk in the truck bed. I guess they figure they don't need to worry about it because the car wash will just blow it all out onto the ground. Sheesh. I even placed trash bins next to the entrance with a sign that asks them to remember to throw their trash away before entering the wash but I guess none of these people can read.

Some people for some strange reason also mistake the wash for a dumping ground. People leaves some of the strangest things lying around (bed frames, cabinets, car doors, etc.)...if they really don't want it it would be great if they could place it into our big dumpster themselves. Nah, that would be to easy. Just leave it for the lady that cleans up after us. She can get it in there with all her muscles.

As for the mud and dirt...I don't mind cleaning that up. That is all that I expected to have to clean up. Isn't that what a car wash is for? To wash dirt from your car?

OK...rant over. I feel much better now and am ready to face another 3 hours at the car wash.

Hair Cut!

Shaelynn has been after me for several months now to get her hair cut up above her shoulders. I have kept telling her "Wait a few days and see if you still want to cut it". This last week she chopped off two of her barbies hair to the length she wanted hers to be. *Hint Hint* Better cut it before she does!

Today when I got home from work she started to beg me to cut it. She wants it ABOVE shoulder. I am to chicken to go that short so she will have to wait until we can beg Grandma Cat to give her a professional cut.

Here's to hoping she doesn't regret it in a few days time.

Puttin on the Ritz

Ha ha...I haven't heard this song since I was a kid. It happen to come on the radio today while I was taking the kids to school. I turned it up and was jammin to it to the kids total embarrassment. :) For some odd reason I LOVE to wiggle the steering wheel back and forth and swerve to the beat. *don't tell my boss at the Drivers License division* Breaking on and off at the perfect rhythm to get a reaction is pretty fun too. My poor kids! They squeal and duck in their seats and giggle away while begging me to stop before someone sees.

It reminded me of dancing with the cousins at their house while my Uncle Marlo played it over and over (and VERY loud). What a fun memory to have attached to a sweet song.

Surprise visit for Halloween!

It was a usual hectic day at the Scotts. I was running behind and had not gotten to the store for Halloween candy. After picking up Cory from school we took off to get some errands run and stop at the store. Errands finished I pull in to the house and we haul all the groceries inside. As I am in the middle of putting them all away we hear a knock at the door. Shaelynn runs to get it with Cory and myself not far behind. This strangely dressed woman is standing at the door. She has bottle-cap glasses on and platinum blond hair. She has bright makeup on and a huge chest and behind. Me being a bit slow starts to think "Oh crap....I don't have the candy out yet..." When suddenly something about this woman is very familiar. Oh my heck...it is my MOM! I should not have given it away to my kids as they were still totally stumped. What a fun trick she played on us for Halloween. If I had seen her on the street I would have never guessed it was her.

She spent the rest of the day with us. We went trunk or treating and then walked a few rounds through the neighborhood with the kids. They were soon tired of trick or treating so we went back to the house. We decided we had time to burn so we ran out and rented a "scary" Goosebumps movie to settle on the couch and watch with the kids until bed time. In the morning we had pancakes and then went on a quick shopping spree. After that Grandma had to get home to check on Grandpa.

What an awesome surprise! It was great fun to spend Halloween with my Mom and the kids!
